Candy Birch retired from Olathe South High School in Olathe KS in 2018 after serving 40+ years as a career educator and high school administrator. She and her husband Marty moved to Gainesville in early 2019. They joined the League of Women Voters of Alachua County right after registering to vote. Prior to moving to Gainesville, Candy was a member of the Johnson County KS League of Women Voters. She is committed to the League and has vowed to help students and others know more about their government and the important role an informed voter plays in a democracy. Candy served in several board positions in Kansas, including two terms as president. She attended and participated in the LWV National Convention in 2016, in 2018 when Kansas received awards for a successful fight against voter suppression, and in 2024. Her passion to educate has led her to advocate and speak on several League priorities including the environment, voter registration, the voting process, diversity in the judiciary, education issues, as well as several local issues. As a current member of the local League, she serves as the Speakers Bureau chair and is a member of the Voter Services and Health Care committees.
