Teaching in Florida, 2026

March 2026 FFSF luncheon with Anna Peterson

March 9th from 11:30 pm – 1:00 pm

with Anna Peterson, Distinguished Teaching Scholar and Cronin Term Professor in the Department of Religion at the University of Florida

Please register by 6 pm Monday, March 2nd

Teachers at public institutions of higher education in Florida face numerous challenges in the present political and social context. These include specific policies, such as restrictions on certain topics, requirements for humanities courses to engage the Western canon, attacks on faculty unions, political interference in administrative hires, and a new post-tenure review process. Beyond individual laws, many instructors experience an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty created by conservative policy makers and activists. This talk will outline some of the challenges and their consequences, along with some ways faculty have been responding.
